A great getaway for families, Klewenalp is a recreation area about 1600m above sea level with stunning views of Lake Lucerne and the Alps. You can take a picturesque aerial cable car here from the town of Beckenried. On the mountain you'll find hiking paths, barbecue areas, playgrounds for children, an herb garden, a compound with furry marmots and a couple of restaurants as well as accommodation. You can also easily hike over to Stockhütte where another cable car will bring you down to the valley floor (hike takes 90 minutes, accessible with strollers), but there are also more alpine possibilities including a hike up to Brisen (2400m). From Stockhütte it's also possible to ride down the mountain on a bikeboard. It takes a little over one hour to get up there from Lucerne (take a train to Stans, then a bus to Beckenried). For an interesting alternative you can even travel to Beckenried by ship.
