The mountains surrounding Lucerne have some great options for children. One great getaway for example are the Muggestutz dwarf trails in the mountain resort Meiringen - Hasliberg. There you and your kids can follow the adventures of Muggestutz and his friends on some easy hikes surrounded by great mountain views - and you and your kids can have some dwarf adventures on your own of course. On the other hand Lucerne's local mountain Pilatus offers plenty for younger folk to get active and close to nature. From Kriens take the small gondolas to Krienseregg (first station). Here you'll find PILU-Land playground, the dragon moor round walk (1.5 - 3h) and plenty of public barbeque and picnic spots, which is ideal for smaller children. Older kids may prefer to go up one more station on the gondola to Fräkmüntegg, where they can balance, climb and swing between the trees at Central Switzerland's largest rope park. See here for more info on Pilatus and how to get there.
