Senator Vineyard was founded in 2006 in Niedoradz near Zielona Góra as a family project of vintner couple Agnieszka and Marek Senator. An experimental collection of about a thousand shrubs of a hundred varieties of dessert grapes and a large selection for still and sparkling wines, the owners originally commissioned a lengthy analysis of the property's soil and chose grapevines that would work well in the western Polish climate. Ambitious as it may sound, their curiosity has paid off and the spaced vineyards rows has allowed the Senators to compare different areas of cultivation. This is one of many reasons why a visit to the estate is a great opportunity to broaden your knowledge of viticulture and wine production, as well as getting a taste of truly Polish wines. While it's recommended to take a tour from September to October when the grapes are ripening, you have the opportunity to partake in a wine tasting with accompanying snacks from May all the way through to October. Prior reservation and calling ahead in general is required, even if you just plan to drop in to pick up a bottle or two. Prices on tours and tasting vary, depending on what is requested. The town of Niedoradz also has a liquor shop that produces its own regional alcohols, and elsewhere you can visit a local ceramics gallery, which is also very much 'wine-themed'.
