Saganum Vineyard

  Bożnów 30A, Żagań      (+48) 60 196 74 89     more than a year ago
In the picturesque Bóbr Valley just outside Żagan, Saganum Vineyard's particular inspiration comes from the surrounding area's monastery gardens that were active in vine cultivation as far back as the 13th century. The owners of this operation have attributed their favourable yields to the sandy-loam deposited by the beavers, the critters who have given this splendid valley location its name. Additionally, the microclimate that uniquely blesses the Lubuskie region and the 50-meter-above-sea-level elevation of this particular site are, of course, beneficial as well. Saganum specializes in wines made from late-harvested or further-dried grape varieties. The red wine produced here is sent to mature in the restored-brick cellars of the Żagań monastery, where monks stored and aged the grape beverage in an identical manner in centuries past. The wine maturation room together with the tasting room, the mini-museum of winemaking and the vineyard in the monastery garden are part of the 'Wine Route', officially opened on 17 July 2020.

Saganum is exclusively focused on wine, which means you'll find no accommodation or restaurant on site. However, if you call ahead, you can drop in and purchase some of their products! They organise wine tasting with prior reservation, with the possibility of snacks included. Prices are dependant on the visitor's selection. Children are welcome, but there are no special attractions or services for them.
