Whilst the actual Equus vineyard is cultivated in Zabór, just outside of Zielona Góra, the main half of the prancing horse's operation is actually located 174km north in the picturesque village of Mierzęcin. Here, the owners have established the front end of their business in a historic schoolhouse, where traditional methods see their grapes pressed and distilled into a wondrous variety of wines - no oenological additives get bottled here! These labels, found on the wine lists of Poland's top restaurants and further abroad, can be sampled and/or purchased on-site, in addition to some perfectly complemented cheese platters, fresh fruit and vegetables. This temptingly luscious activity is organised through prior reservation, lasts around 1.5hrs during which 8 to 11 different wines are presented, and costs 50zł per person. Furthermore, the staff at the Equus establish will happily organise pizza if the more indulgent of guests require it! The prancing horse that is emblematic of the winery's fine reputation is not just for show. Children, who are travelling in tow with their eno-savvy parents, can enjoy the estate's playground and the possibility of a horse ride.
Whilst the site in Mierzęcin does not have accommodation, there are other favourable options in town, and other sites are worth your consideration, in particular the forest and lake-numerous Drawa National Park and the WWII remnants on the Pomeranian Position Fortification Route. If you are part of a larger group, a stop in the Lubuskie Centrum Winiarstwa (ENG: Lubuskie Winemaking Center) located near the Equus Vineyard in Zabór is a possibility - just inquire and see what they have to say!
