A trip to Prekmurje would not be complete without sampling some of the local specialties. Perhaps foremost among these is Prleška tünka, or Prekmurje ham, produced using a protected method and going very well with a glass of red. Another must try dish is bograč, which is similar to goulash and even has its own festival each August. For those with a sweet tooth there's gibanica, a delicious dessert with layers of phyllo pastry, cream cheese, raisins and other delights. The tower provides a convenient stop on the Lendava wine road, which is predominately lined with producers of excellent white wines.
