The Vipava Valley has always been one of our favourite wine destinations in Slovenia, and the idyllic village of Slap has been one of the particular highlights, with the storied village boasting the oldest agricultural school in all of Slovenia and several great local producers with equally long histories - including the family-run Rouna Estate, whose literal and figurative roots reach all the way back to 1765. Their wines are known for their distinctive freshness, with the indigenous Zelen and Pinela varieties must-tries for first time visitors. However, our personal favourites are the premium red and wine cuvées, which pick up lovely flavours after spending two years in French barriques.
