Now in its 19th year this event is exactly what you'd expect from its title. The humble potato is the object for celebration here so bring your appetite and get stuck into some superb spud dishes. Potatoes play a big part in the Slovenian diet and each year the competition for the best sautéed potato brings dozens of teams to the region to compete for the title. This fun event has been hosted in a different town each year since it beginnings as a fun project at a restaurant in Ljubljana. Austrian Empress Maria Theresa is credited for introducing potatoes to Slovenia in the 18th century and her statue proudly stands in the town of Šenčur. This year's event will be held at the Parkirišče Primorka in Postojna.
