Kitajski Zmaj might only be the second oldest Chinese restaurant in Slovenia, but the Chinese Dragon (as the name translates to in English) will always have the most fitting name for Ljubljana. There's a lot to like about this storied family-run eatery, from the large portions and huge selection of dishes from all all over China to the unfailingly friendly service and the endearingly retro décor. However, what really sets it apart from the newer competition is the location. Some people will complain that it's too far away from the centre, but we always view it as a great excuse to visit the Barje Regional Park and especially the Jože Plečnik designed Church of St Michael a few hundred metres down the road, which is a true hidden gem and ranks among the most unique churches anywhere in the country. Situated just outside the ring road directly south of town, bus 19 will drop you just outside the door.
