Hidden away on the backside of a commercial building overlooking a car park in the north of the city, you need a good reason to make the approximately 3km journey (a massive distance in Slovene terms) from the city centre to Gostilna 1987. Of course there is indeed a good reason to do so or we probably wouldn't be writing about it, namely, you get to taste the culinary excellence of one of the world's best chefs at pocket-friendly prices. The chef in question is the legendary Janez Bratož, and this humble lunch spot is a joint venture by him and his son Tomaž. The menu consists of just a few daily specials and a handful of à la carte options, but you can rest assured that your money will be well spent.
