Family Fun in the City

08 Oct 2024
Looking for some fun activities for all the family? Then look no further because we've got you covered. Here are some of our top picks:

Outdoor Activities
A trip to Ljubljana Castle is always an adventure, with the funicular ride to the top never failing to put smiles on little faces. Once you arrive, there’s no end of space and panoramic views to enjoy. In the museum, you can explore the castle’s rich history through interactive exhibits, then stop for ice cream at the cafe or pick up some trinkets in Friderik’s store.  If you time your funicular descent well you can also enjoy the Puppet Theatre clock in Krekov trg, which chimes on the hour from 08:00 - 20:00.

For a more relaxed outdoor experience, head to Tivoli Park, Ljubljana’s largest green space. The park is perfect for a family picnic, a leisurely stroll, or a bike ride. Kids will love the playgrounds scattered throughout the park. And just around the corner from the park is the wonderful Ljubljana Zoo where there are over 100 species of animals to observe.

Another family favourite is the Ljubljanica River. Families can take a boat tour to see the city from a different perspective, or try stand-up paddle boarding or kayaking - great family fun for all ages.

Indoor Fun and Learning
If the weather is too hot or too wet then Ljubljana has plenty of indoor attractions to keep the family entertained. The House of Experiments is a hands-on science centre perfect for curious minds. With interactive exhibits that encourage kids to explore the wonders of science, it’s an educational experience disguised as fun.

For a mix of history and play, visit the National Museum of Slovenia. The museum offers a special children’s corner where young visitors can engage in creative activities related to the exhibits. The museum’s collection includes everything from prehistoric artefacts to mediaeval armour, making it a fascinating stop for kids and adults.

If your family enjoys art, the House of Illusions is a must-see. This quirky museum is full of optical illusions, holograms, and mind-bending exhibits that will delight children and adults alike. It’s a great place to take memorable photos and challenge your perception.

If your day out is on a Friday then the Open Kitchen is a fantastic opportunity for the family to sample various local and international dishes. The market has a lively atmosphere, and there’s something to please every palate, from traditional Slovenian dishes to international favourites.
