The works of Berlin-based artist Andreas Mühler-Pohle persistently revolve around the ontological and representational question of photography, its essence and social significance. In his works, he explores both the limits of photography and reality, and above all, his works are characterised by fluctuations between, as he points out in the article Photographic Dimensions, the aesthetic, political and technological aspects of photography. Andreas never simply places himself on one of these sides - he dedicates himself to research or focusing on the meaning of the subject of representation. The categorical choice between high and low culture, between political engagement or aesthetic conservatism, between digital deconstruction or analog imprint, turns out to be wrong in his works, one could even say false. For him, the technological-aesthetic-political construction of the subject of representation is in the foreground, which requires different visual approaches. His oeuvre ranges from works devoted to the ontological questions of photography, through research works on the meaning of everyday images, political aspects of the visual, with complex photograms and videos with which he tackles the ecological issues of photo recycling, all the way to projects that combine photography, video and sound, with a dedication to environmental deconstruction.
