Located on top of a hill 650m above sea level, the Celjska Koča resort has been a well-known recreational tourist destination for nearly 100 years. With well-kept year-round hiking trails, an award-winning short ski slope (which is transformed into a bobsled track out of season) and breathtaking views and landscapes, this should come as no surprise. However, with the recent addition of a modern three-star hotel, the area has become more popular than ever. The hotel itself is a beautiful structure, with an alpine modernist style that fits in very organically with the surroundings. The facilities include a large sauna and wellness centre, an even larger restaurant and a balcony for sun bathing. If you do stay the night, do yourself a favour and try to request room 204, which easily boasts one of the most spectacular views in the country - and would be a steal at twice the price.
