This quiet square not far from Liepāja’s city council building was completely reconstructed in 2013 and now includes an impressive illuminated fountain that supposedly creates a number of different ancient Latvian pagan symbols when it operates in the summer months. Water often surprises passers-by when it suddenly spews forth from the ground. The square is named after Latvia’s first president Jānis Čakste (1859 - 1927).
