Croatia isn’t quite the budget-friendly destination it once was, but there remain plenty of ways for visitors to get more bang for their buck. A fantastic way to keep costs down is to take advantage of the frequent free entry days at the museums and galleries found all around. We’ve assembled a collection of the best, and they don’t come much more marvellous than the annual Night of the Museum, which takes place on January 31.
The Archaeological Museum in Zagreb offers free entry on the first Saturday of the month and every Tuesday for retirees.
The Museum of Contemporary Art (MSU) in Zagreb offers free entry every first Wednesday of the month.
The Zagreb City Museum (MGZ) offers free entry on International Museum Day (May 18th) and Zagreb City Day (May 31st).
The Ethnographic Museum in Zagreb offers free entry on International Museum Day, May 18th.
The Prigorje Museum and the Police Museum are always free.
Dražen Petrović Memorial Centre has free entry for all individual visits on June 7th and October 22nd, marking the anniversaries of the death and birth of a great figure in Croatian sports.
The Natural History Museum in Rijeka provides free entry to all visitors on the first Tuesday of the month and on International Museum Day (May 18th).
The Krka National Park celebrates its anniversary on January 24th and typically offers free entry on that day. Check their website for the latest updates.
Zadar's Archaeological Museum opens its doors with no commission on International Museum Day and its birthday, November 30.
Šibenik marks its birthday with free entry to all fortresses on September 29.
Entry to the Archaeological Museum Split is free on August 18, its anniversary, and on International Museum Day, May 18.
