The former strip mine a few kilometres south of the city opened as a lake recreation area in 2000. At 4.3 km2 and 60 metres deep, it instantly became one of the most popular spots in the region for water sports. Swimming, sailing, wind and kite surfing, diving and canoeing are some of the water activities on offer. And inline skating, saunas, volleyball and walking are available for those who want to stay dry. A system of paths goes around the lake and is ideal for walking, jogging or cycling. Hotels, bed and breakfasts, flats and camping sites are all conveniently located around the lake as are several shops, restaurants and cafés.
