Inaugurated a full century after the event it commemorates, the Völkerschlachtdenkmal, the biggest (and heaviest) monument in Europe, stands in memory of the soldiers who fought and won in October 1813 against Napoleon. Ninety-one metres high and weighing 300,000 tonnes, it impresses from near and far. Climb the 364 steps to the top, and view the Hall of Fame inside. The crypt doubles as a concert hall.
