The beautiful country houses just keep on coming. Temple Newsam is another to add to the list, a Jacobean beaut that oozes regality but also doffs its cap to the working class heart of Yorkshire, through a working farm and a down to earth charm. The gardens are the highlight, further proof that Capability Brown was not only the most wonderfully named human in history, but also the most impressive landscaper of them all. The house and farm are closed on Mondays (with the exception of Bank Holidays). The estate is actually accessible via public transport, with the number 19 (and 19A) bus dropping off at nearby Whitlock (one mile away).
