The Leeds Corn Exchange is pretty enough from the outside, but it is the awe-inspiring grace of the interior that really takes the cake. Completed in 1864 to the specifications of the magnificently-named Cuthbert Brodrick, those who detect a little bit of Parisian elegance to it all won’t be clutching at straws, as the design was heavily influenced by the Bourse de Commerce in the French capital. The Corn Exchange is now a shopping centre of sorts but one that eschews the soulless modernity of malls in favour of independence and aesthetic charm, with around 30 stores found within. The roof and subsequent ceiling might just be the most beautiful thing in Leeds.
