The name of the village was derived from the legend of the affluent Kutná Hora native burgher Malešov, who established a lumberjack colony here. The first written record of Malešov dates back to 1303. In terms of architectural monuments, the ancient fortress from the early 14th century dominates Malešov and its surroundings. Evidence of the great age of the Malešov fortress is the massive five-storey habitable tower, which was rebuilt into a granary in 1730 and has since been used only for farming purposes. Since 2002, the fortress has been privately owned and occasionally opens its gates to the public. Another point of interest in the village is the Church of St. Wenceslas of 1731.
