The chateau is one of the most significant Empire buildings in the country. J. R. Chotek commissioned its construction in 1806-24 as its representative residence. Today it houses the Museum of Rural Life in Bohemia with an exhibition of the facilities of the chateau - the kitchen, laundry room, ironing room, ice room, cellars, pantry, and maid’s chamber. The museum gradually enabled access to other parts of the chateau, such as the Chotek library, chateau theatre and extensive exhibition about the life of the Chotek counts. The complex also includes the museum’s exhibition “Grandmother’s Prams”. The chateau is set in an extensive English park, which was founded in 1789 according to the plans of the famous Viennese botanist F. N. Jacquin. The chateau is 8 km away from Kutná Hora. Every visitor is bound to welcome the possibility to visit the chateau year-round for tours (by appointment in winter) along with its “Educational Trail through the Chateau Game Park”.
