The church was built in the 12th century at the expense of the noblewoman Marie of Švábenice, the sister of the founder of the Sedlec monastery, Miroslav. The significance of the place and building was so great that the consecration of the church was also attended by King Vladislav himself and Queen Judita. The Church of St. Jacob is particularly exceptional for its sculptural decoration of the southern façade, which belongs to court art of the Vladislav period. It is the largest preserved group of Romanesque sculptures in Bohemia and most probably the oldest depiction of Bohemian patron saints. It was declared a national cultural monument in 2008. The church is accessible by prior arrangement. Contact: Phone: +420 737 338 158 www.sedlec.info
