Apart from the Church of St. James, this church belongs to the oldest stone churches in the town. It was established already back in the first half of the 14th century but its present form is the result of reconstruction after a fire in 1470. Originally a market stood on the site of the church where silver ore was weighed and sold. The legend tells that chunks of ore, which fell to the ground, were not mixed with the sold ore but were swept aside separately instead, and the saved silver was then used to finance the construction. This is also where the name of the church “On the Sweep” (Na Náměti) is derived from. Significant Baroque painter Petr Brandl was buried in the church in 1735.
