ZaKładka Bistro de Cracovie

Located in a restored tenement just over the Bernatek footbridge in Podgórze, this thoroughly classy French-style bistro strikes the perfect balance of modern elegance, exciting upscale cuisine and below market prices to make it outrageously popular. The menu changes seasonally, using local ingredients and imported delicacies to create exotic French specialties, plus vegetarian options (vegan upon request). The prices are pedestrian when one considers the skill of each meal's preparation and presentation, and the fact that ZaKładka has been a mainstay of the Michelin guide since it opened (in 2019 they snagged an Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator). A perfect date destination, from the moment you step inside Zakładka seemingly everything - from the sharp black, white and red interior to the excellent food and local Polish wine - becomes an aphrodisiac; make a reservation if you've got a special occasion coming. In spring/summer the tables spill out onto the sidewalk, providing the perfect place for an afternoon aperitif.

The "Krakow in Your Pocket" guide recommended this restaurant as a romantic venue for couples. Needless to say we booked. On arrival we were shown to a lovely corner table by an waiter with excellent English. From start to finish the food was fantastic. The main courses of Duck confit with Bearnaise sauce and pears (as good as I have eaten anywhere in South West France), and style entrecôte of beef which my husband had we're simply excellent. The entire meal of three courses each plus wine was less that €50. Standouts for both of us were the baked mussel meat with garlic butter and for me the mini crime brûlée. A gem of a place away from the Main Square no wonder the locals love it. Excellent service, great food and classy decor! Superbe!!!
