One becomes a pilgrim from a need of the heart which provides motivation for what is sometimes a long hike and strenuous effort. The exhibit focuses on pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela, Rome and Jerusalem, as well as on a local route in Poland’s Małopolska region to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. It also presents valuable souvenirs - medieval and contemporary pilgrim shells and small devotional items.
The experience of migration is most difficult and it is usually imposed on people. It is a journey along an uncertain path with the hope of finding a safe haven. This dimension of travelling is presented from the perspective of the Peruvian Asháninka, who, living close to nature and experiencing climate change, are forced to roam in search of safety. At the same time, they are trying to live as they always have - respecting their identity, drawing strength from family ties and from retelling myths about their ancestors.
