Turandot, the last opera by Giacomo Puccini, will premiere on Krakow Opera's stage on 25 march 2022. It is the story of a princess who orders her suitors to be beheaded if they fail to solve her three riddles. Will she ultimately find true love and fulfilment? “Turandot” is believed to be the composer's indisputable masterpiece, far beyond the scores of “La Bohème”, “Tosca” and “Madama Butterfly.” The opera also attracts with its interpretative potential. As any fairytale or myth, it contains the universal secret of human life, conscious or subconscious. How will Karolina Sofulak, who is preparing the opera for Krakow Opera’s stage, interpret Puccini's & Turandot's.The director debuted in Opera North, one of the most progressive opera institutions in the United Kingdom. She was the first Pole to win the international competition of opera directing, the European Opera Directing Prize in Zurich. Tomasz Tokarczyk, the music director of the Krakow Opera, is working on the interpretation of music in Puccini’s masterpiece. The costumes and set design are created by Ilona Binarsch.
