Located on a riverboat on the Kazimierz side of the Bernatek Footbridge, Slay Space is Kraków's newest (since 2024), loudest (especially on weekends) and most visible LGBTQIA+ venue. Ironically the Dutch cargo barge it occupies dates back to 1889 and was once significant enough to the history of water transport to be featured on a Dutch postage stamp. Today it's painted bright pink, decked out in rainbow flags, and host to drag bingo (every Tuesday), burlesque shows, and other non-binary events. Modernised and refitted to be a fancy restaurant/beer garden, the vessel offers a lot of versatility, which Slay Space uses to great advantage. In addition to a full range of alcohol and drinks (including pink lattes and pink cocktails), Slay Space has a large menu of proper meals, including pink pierogi, pink pizza and pink pasta; on warm weather weekends they even host outrageous, performative drag brunches above decks. Down below, the spacious hold features wooden floors, a sculpted bar, fireplace and skylights that let in plenty of natural light by day, before turning into site of wild hetero-friendly LGBTQ dance parties. Depending what's happening and who's on-board, Slay Space is either a legitimately pleasant, welcoming spot for food and drinks in the sunshine, a flamboyantly kitsch place to indulge your wildest quirks, or the place to go wild gyrating to the latest YOLO party anthems with your 'brat' friends. In any and all cases, it's fun and a major step forward for Kraków - a city that could use more places that preach tolerance and inclusiveness.
