The first Long Night of Museums took place in Berlin in 1997, and the concept of museums staying open all night with special events spread through Europe like wildfire: currently over 140 major European cities (and many minor ones) organise their own museum nights. Kraków, with its bounty of museums and cultural institutions provides many venues to discover, but note that they always organise their Night of Museums one day earlier than the rest of Europe (allowing you to do back-to-back Museum Nights?). This year there are over 60 participating venues, including museums, art galleries, cultural centres and other institutions in and around Kraków. Events typically begin around 17:00 and entrance is a symbolic 1zł for which you receive a commemorative coin that grants free access to all museums, and free rides on public transit all evening.
