"Save the dying art" is the motto of the 46th Folk Art Fair taking place traditionally on Kraków's Main Market (Rynek Główny) in front of the Town Hall Tower (Wieża Ratuszowa). Every year, craftsmen from all over Europe come to show off their artwork. Visitors have a rare chance to become familiar with the centuries-old techniques - pottery, embroidery, lace making, and sculpting. During the 18 days of the fair (August 8-25), 700 craftsmen will exhibit their creations. Wander around the craft displays, then pause for a moment to admire the perfectionism of the folk dancers performing on stage. This year 170 folk dance groups (each evening from a different region of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine, Romania, Cyprus, Italy, and Spain) will be entertaining an audience during the art fair. For the really curious visitors, embroidery, pottery, and sculpting workshops will be offered.
