The concrete carbuncle known as the 'Art Bunker' stands alongside MOCAK as the city's best contemporary art galleries. One of the few very modern buildings in the Old Town, its Brutalist design created an absolute scandal when it first opened in 1965 and its multi-million złoty restoration (including the demolition and rebuilding of its beloved terrace resto/cafe) has been the source of much controversy. Now fully modernised and reopened to the public in its original home after a long break, the institution's groundbreaking exhibits are back on. Inside you'll find changing exhibits of contemporary and modern art by Polish and international artists over three floors, plus a small bookshop. Meanwhile, Bunkier Cafe - the glorious exterior cafe/bar/beer garden reopened in summer or 2024 and all is right in the world again.

Before MOCAK came along this was Kraków's best contemporary art gallery. Still great as ever and whereas MOCAK takes half a day to visit you can easily do Bunkier in an hour without leaving the Old Town and you've still got time to kill in the beer garden on the ground floor. Recommended.
