Tucked behind a gate on Plac Biskupi, this lovely Baroque church is one of the neighbourhood's hidden gems. Named after St. Francis de Sales (known as Franciszek Salezy in Polish) - the co-founder of the women's Order of the Visitation of the Holy Mother - this church is connected to the large monastery of that order which extends unnoticed over a huge walled-off plot of land to the north and west (check it out on the map below). Built in the late-17th century, the rich Baroque interior features paintings depicting the lives of both 'Visitinian' (as the order is also known) founders, St. Francis de Sales and Joanna de Chantal. A sundial on the exterior wall of the church bears the inscription, 'Life is a short dream.'
Although overall beautifully decorated, a closer look at the gable of St. Francis de Sales Church proves less masterful than assumed ;)
