This small bakery/cafe is the product of one couple's passion for strudel - a traditional Galician delicacy of thin pastry with various fillings that had its heyday across the Hapsburg Empire (of which Kraków was a part from 1795-1918) in the 18th and 19th centuries, but has since almost disappeared. With secessionist furnishings and decor, and an intimate, friendly atmosphere, Artisan Strudel hearkens back to that era when artistic salons and cafes were the centre of social life. The strudels (12-16zł per portion) are made from scratch on-site each morning (four daily), using local ingredients and a traditional recipe, and available in both sweet and savoury varieties - like apple with cinnamon and raisins, or baked salmon with spinach - then topped with vanilla or garlic sauce. Delicious and satisfying, both the taste and hospitality here are thoroughly charming; do drop in.
