Built in 1871, this beautiful building in the city centre hides a wealth of wonderful things to see inside but can only be visited by prior appointment which involves making a telephone call and hoping that someone at the other end speaks English.

London, England In your description of the synagogue it is stated to have one of the most beautiful ALTARS. I think this is incorrect as Synagogues - Altars is used in biblical times - do not have them. I think perhaps it should either be the Bimah, from which the Torah is read, or The Ark in which the Torah Scrolls are kept. I also sent this last night so apologise if you receive this twice. Please could you let me have your reply as soon as possible. Many thanks
