The Lithuanian sculptor Martynas Gaubas’ 2018 statue of the Kaunas-born writer of the world's first Hebrew novel Abraham Mapu (1808-1867) can be found hidden away in a courtyard at the far northern end of the Old Town street named after him. Depicted standing on a chair for reasons that remain a mystery, Mapu, who famously tried and failed to make himself invisible as a teenager, is surrounded by three other chairs that visitors are encouraged to sit on for equally perplexing reasons.
