Among the many varieties of Mediterranean food, Spanish cuisine is unique due to the use of different olive oils, spices and herbs – and then there are large regional differences as well. Near the University campus, El Gitano's cosy wood-panelled interior and intimate terrace (with retractable roof) is a great place to sample the fine selection of tapas and pinchos starters, and meat, fish and seafood dishes from various regions – all accompanied by good Spanish wines. Lamb skewers, calamari squid, rice dishes, paella (order this in advance) and tortilla can all be found on the menu which also lists international classics like steak and schnitzel. Round off your meal with a crema catalana dessert if there's still space.
