A massive red-brick building opposite the Fruchthalle and Rathaus, the newly built theatre is hard to miss. Built in 1999 to distance itself architecturally from any remnant of the city’s historical traditions - as is true with most new public works in Germany - many a local is proud of the theatre. Two enormous marble busts flank the theatre, one representing a fallen angel, the other an African king.
