This stunning bright green neo-gothic wooden cottage was built by self-made Latvian millionaire Kristaps Morbergs (1844 - 1928), who was a contractor, architect and philanthropist. This amazing man, who walked to Riga from a farm in the Zemgale region at the age of 20, amassed a huge fortune by the time of his death many years later. Already known for his charitable works, he bequeathed 2.7 million lats to the University of Latvia, not to mention this beautiful building, which is still owned by the venerable learning institution. You can mill about its garden in the summer, which includes a wide variety of exotic flowers and plants, but it's usually only open for larger groups and special occasions..
