A certain Mr. Horn, whose biographical information seems to have been lost to time, built the first hotel in Majori at this very spot in 1870. Its lush garden was often used as a venue for symphony orchestra concerts not to mention the first screening in Jūrmala of a so-called movie back in 1896. Sadly, the building was completely destroyed by a fire in 1913, but the garden is still a sight to see in the summer and the tradition of free outdoor music concerts continues to this day.
