Tshabalala's distinctive work centres on portraiture and explores the representation of black women in art history. Challenging western-centric art ideas from the past that used to place black women into background positions or compromising situations, Tshabala seeks to give back the black women's voice by placing female figures in powerful and prominent positions within her artworks, tapping into topics of beauty, sensuality and the relationship between the body and the landscape. An intimate and introspective exhibition that vividly captures black life and self-love.
Opening event Sat Jul 2 at 18:00.
