One of Joburg's most walkable neighbourhoods, Rosebank has (unusually for Joburg) been designed with people rather than cars in mind, and you can easily walk from one side of the district to the other in 10 minutes. It's quite a feat compared to the distances faced in many of Joburg's low-rise, strip mall-dominated northern suburbs. It's also a jacaranda destination, with the trees lining many of the main thoroughfares and making October in Rosebank an incredible sight to see – filled with purple blooms that mark out Joburg spring.
While we think that this is the best time to visit, there are no bad times to visit this fun neighbourhood, with its great coffee shops, restaurants, and hundreds of stores from which to choose anything from local fashion labels to cool international streetwear. This is also the home of the Rosebank Art and Craft Market, a daily African market that is a delight to browse, and the Rosebank Sunday Market, on the rooftop at the Rosebank Mall.
Being an attraction for business and leisure, there are plenty of lovely options for where to stay. So, whether you are after a city staycation or a serviced rental, a boutique hotel, or a budget-friendly spot, you'll find it here. All options we have listed are within walking distance of the Rosebank Gautrain station, which, if you are coming from out of town, means just a 20-minute ride from O.R. Tambo International Airport.
Here's our list of the district’s hotels and short-stay serviced rentals worth checking out.
