Jolly Cool
At this point Jolly Cool in Parkhurst is part of the Joburg establishment and its rare to go a Saturday or Sunday in some circles when you don't hear a snatch of conversation starting with "Ja hey, I was at Jolly's last night.". With their drink specials, live sport on the projector, pizza and pool tables, Jolly's sees customers throughout the week, and on weekends patrons spill out into the street. It is first and foremost a watering hole and while the pool table gets busy, it isn't the place to go if you're looking for a space designed and catered to ensuring the best environment for pool. But this doesn't mean you can't get a competitive (and sometimes less so) game in as people queue up their five rand coins for a game with the winner staying on. In 2022, Jolly Cool brought the vibes of their Parkhurst bar to Melville and added a much-needed spot to play pool on 7th.

Marley's
Just across from Jolly Cool in Parkhurst, Marley's beach-themed bar is also equipped with a pool table (just in case you wanted to get your toes sandy while chalking your cue). A bit quieter than Jolly Cool, Marley's is a good spot to slip to for a game if the crowd is getting raucous at Jolly Cool.Where: 7 4th Ave, Parkhurst, Johannesburg, 2193.
BallBreakers
BallBreakers is the place to play pool in Joburg and they have created a space where beginners and seasoned pros can go to find a game. Each venue has a bar attached to it but the focus here is very much on delivering cuesports at an international standard and you won't find any odd stains or scuffed carpets on these tables.

The Rock
This pool hall in Braam has become a popular spot to go with a group of friends, split a bucket of beers or ciders, and pass the evening with the gentle clinking of the balls hitting each other. With a low-slung ceiling, plenty of pool tables and seating spread around them its a great option for when you want to play with a larger group and still be able to get comfortable to spectate. Oh, and if you head there on a Thursday they have some drink specials which will make it worth your while.
Where: 181 Smit St, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, 2000.
Cracker Zacs
Tucked away in The Fun Company at The Zone@Rosebank, this exclusive 21-and-over arcade has been created as a classy arcade experience. In addition to a bowling alley and retro arcade Cracker Zac's have a couple of pool tables for you to challenge your date or friends on. With signature cocktails and pizza this place gives a more sophisticated way to fill those pockets.
Where: 50 Bath Ave, Rosebank, Johannesburg, 2196.
Stones
With plenty of drink specials, big screens and pool tables, Stones is often packed late into the night. Segue from the pool table to the dance floor and back. If you're looking to challenge some strangers this is an excellent spot as players rotate between the tables. It can get quite rowdy though so if that's not your vibe you'd be better off opting for BallBreakers or Cracker Zacs.Where: 43 Van Buuren Rd, Bedfordview, Germiston, 2008.
Ridgeway Racebar
This bar has become popular for it's plethora of big screens and great selection of tasty pub food. If you're into motor sports. Ridgeway Racebar is a must-visit as the walls are adorned with memorabilia. The only downside to this joint is that on busy days they will close the pool tables so if you're wanting a consistent hangout for pool you may have to look elsewhere.
Where: L7A, Stoneridge Centre, 1 Stoneridge Dr, Greenstone Park, Johannesburg, 1610.
