WAV Inscriptions of Abstractions – Pebofatso Mokoena and Frederick Clarke
Wednesday Mar 23 - Friday Apr 15
32 Bolton Rd, Rosebank
Combining mathematics, mark-making, nature and elements of synaesthesia (the term used to describe the sensation of experiencing one of your senses through another, such as 'seeing' a sound or 'hearing' a colour), the exhibition is an intimate journey through the artistic influences of the two artists.
Working in mixed media, including silkscreens, drawing, collage, print and painting, Mokoena's abstracts are inspired by the often chaotic and complex nature of South African politics, architecture, history and the movement of people and his precise mark-making and divisions of space carry an almost mystical quality.
Frederick Clarke is an artist and music producer whose music is a sonic reflection of his visual artworks. Exploring themes of texture, mathematics, mark-making and intuition, Clarke works in a variety of mediums including painting, wall murals, printmaking, installation, light-boxes, drawings, video, and music.
