In his latest body of work, he explores new mediums, inviting a reconsidered and refined understanding African society and spirituality as separate from colonial ideals.

"The works in my Mkpese series draw from the practice of narrative and history," Obot says. His intricate paintings come to life on diverse media such as fiber glass, canvas, leather, Perspex, paper, fabric and wood; defly merging abstraction and stylised figuration. Obot's works are complex, yet playful, textured and multi-layered, and draw upon the social and sociopolitical practices of centuries-old African culture that fused religion, governance, spirituality, interpersonal relationships and community cohesion.
