share
Walk through one of Joburg’s oldest neighbourhoods with chef, tour guide and Troyeville resident Ishvara Dhyan of African Secrets tour company. A Troyeville resident for the past 20 years, Dhyan traces the neighbourhood's history and current changes in this walking tour.

One of Joburg's oldest neighbourhoods, Troyeville has long been home to artists and activists and has a very colourful history. Stops include the former homes of David Webster, a prominent anti-apartheid activist assassinated in 1989, and of Gandhi, who briefly lived in Troyeville while working as a lawyer. The tour also takes in the area's abundant street art, various immigrant communities and pays a visit to the Spaza Art Gallery. A Troyeville institution, the gallery showcases works by emerging contemporary artists.

Booking is essential. To book email ishvara@africansecrets.co.za. The tour starts at 10:00 at The Troyeville Hotel.
