Filmmaker Matthys Boschoff's thrilling new historical drama The Story of Racheltjie de Beer is based on the best-selling novel of the same name, which in turn is inspired by the popular folk story of a young Voortrekker in the 1800s. The figure of Racheltjie de Beer became an Afrikaans folk hero for her selfless bravery. Trapped on their way from the Cape to the goldfields of the north by a freak snow storm, the teenage Racheltjie is separated from her family in the Drakensburg mountains and bravely sets out to rescue her 5-year old brother, by sacrificing her own life to keep him safe from the blizzard.
