The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO) presents a one-night-only performance of the Moscow Soloists on Thu, Sep 5 at the Linder Auditorium

Founded in 1986 by the illustrious violist and conductor Yuri Bashmet, the Moscow Soloists are one of the world's most highly acclaimed chamber ensembles. In 1992, a transformative intake of the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory's finest students, graduates, and postgraduates completely revamped the ensemble. Imagine their first notes echoing through the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, swiftly followed by a Parisian encore at the Salle Pleyel.

From the hallowed halls of Carnegie to the architectural marvel of the Sydney Opera House, their symphonies have resonated globally. They’ve graced the stages of the world’s most prestigious venues, including Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and Vienna’s Musikverein, leaving a trail of standing ovations.

At the helm, award-winning artist and conductor Bashmet brings musical depth, virtuosity, and artistic courage. He's performed everything possible – and what seemed impossible – on the viola.

The Moscow Soloists ensemble’s calendar is a mosaic of marquee events. Their repertoire? A treasure trove of over 350 works, from Baroque to contemporary, earning them a Grammy and multiple nominations. Joburg concert-goers can look forward to Dmitry Shostakovich's Chamber SymphonyKuzma Bodrov's Reflections on the Theme of Paganini Caprice No.24, and Petr Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings in C major, Op. 48

So, if you’re seeking a night of sublime strings and masterful maestros, the Moscow Soloists are not to be missed. Buy your tickets here.
