Ayanda Mabulu is a Joburg artist with an intense presence whose works always have something of depth to say. Whether it is a graphically expressed point about corruption, or a challenging look at the past, Mabulu's work is always bold, memorable and with powerful points to make.

The artist's latest exhibition, The Healers, is based on African spiritual tradition and aims to revive the sanctity of African spirituality and traditional wisdom. The artist asserts that years of colonisation has disrupted the connections and relationships with the ancestors that are inherent to African spirituality and the artist strives to free the ancestors from this bondage by paying homage to them in his paintings.
