Hosted online, works from the sale are also on show in an exhibition at the auction house's Rosebank showroom on Jan Smuts Avenue until Sun July 31 (open for viewings 10:00-16:00).
Dazzling jewellery, fine wines to wow even the most discerning connoisseur, contemporary artwork, and unusual home textiles and furniture are just a few of the things up for bid at this remarkable auction. Featuring a sizable selection of works by highly sought-after contemporary artists, the four-day auction's art catalogue is jam-packed with more than 300 tempting items including watercolours, paintings, prints, drawings, sketches and sculptures.
There's truly something for everything with works by some of South Africa's most well-known artists such as Anton van Wouw, Louis van Essche, Maggie Laubser, Azael Langa, or Adriaan Hendrik Boshoff on offer and estimates that start from as little as R1,000 going up to hundreds of thousands of rands for the most coveted pieces. Beautiful works by lesser known or unknown artists are also included in the sale with some very temptingly accessible estimate prices that will excite new collectors looking for an accessible way to grow an art collection.
Particularly exciting from the huge art collection on offer is a selection of artworks from the impressive Legacy Museum that was once part of the luxurious Orient Boutique Hotel. Since closing last year the hotel has been auctioning its vast collection of art, wine and period furniture and this special sale includes artworks from the hotel's collection. Spanning multiple South African art movements and styles this sale includes captivating works by Cape Impressionists such as Gregoire Boonzaier, Cecil Higgs and Nita Spilhaus.
Fine wines and spirits are another major draw card that oenophiles won't want to miss. The 102 items in the auction session devoted to premium drinks should be browsed by everyone with a taste for fine wine and spirits as soon as they register and begin bidding. There are some exceptional bottles on offer and the bidding is sure to get fierce for some great vintages from South African winemakers such as Vilafonte, Sijnn, Alheit and Sadie Family Wines as well as some interesting cases of French Bordeaux wines.
