The 12th edition of this popular lifestyle festival at the inspiring Soweto Theatre complex is themed “the art of summer wine”.

Started by Soweto-born Mnikelo Mangciphu, owner of Morara Wine and Spirit Emporium, Soweto’s first boutique wine and spirit shop, and Cape Wine Master, Marilyn Cooper, former CEO of the Cape Wine Academy, the Soweto Wine and Lifestyle Festival has become a landmark event known for its commitment to transforming the South African wine industry.

Designed originally to bring Cape wines to Joburg’s largest township, Soweto, the festival has been shaped by the place and people making it a unique event that combines the best of Cape wines with the inimitable culture, food, music and style of Soweto.

Usually held in September, this year the festival takes place in the summer, allowing for more outdoor space to enjoy the food, wine and design on offer, as well as making space for live music performances by local artists on Soweto Theatre's outdoor stage including electronic house singer Nonku Phiri.

This year food is also taking centre stage with local chefs and market vendors cooking up a storm at the festival's street food market making use of ingredients grown and produced in Soweto by small-scale urban farmers.
