A celebration of the Slow Food movement, which embraces a farm-to-fork philosophy of eating, held in the heart of Soweto. This one day event includes an organic food market featuring produce from urban farmers based in Soweto and Orange Farm and a selection of food stalls selling classic township street food, plus arts and crafts stalls, wine and craft beer pop-ups and the Izindaba Zokudla (Conversations about Food) conference.
At lunch time there's the chance to enjoy an Nguni cow 'from nose to tail' at the Slow Meat competition. This unique culinary competition sees nine teams compromised of chef students, plus a tenth team made up of Sowetan grandmothers, embarking in a massive cook-off using every single part of a 300kg Nguni cow to produce some unusual and delicious traditional dishes.
